How can you contribute?

Human beings and nature have always lived closely together in Suldal. We have grazed our animals in the mountains, fished in rivers, lakes, and fjords, and gathered what nature has to offer. Suldalsløftet is a dedication to how we want to live and reside in Suldal. By following these guidelines, you, as a visitor, also contribute to making Skattkammeret Suldal a great place to be today and in the future.

We support local businesses.

We aim to have vibrant communities with thriving businesses, organizations, and cultural life, both now and in the future. We support our local businesses and shop locally.

  • Need equipment for your mountain hike or food for a weekend at the cabin? In the town center of Sand, you'll find a range of fantastic local niche shops, and in our villages, you'll always find a convenience store. By supporting local shops, you help ensure employment and vitality in the communities today and in the future.
  • Join our local events and activities. Follow Visit Suldal on Facebook or check out the activity calendar on our home page for the latest news.
  • Looking for local food? Several of our farms sell various products such as honey, apple juice, sausages, and meat. You can find an overview of excellent outlets in Suldal under "Get Inspired".

We make environmentally conscious choices.

We want future generations to experience the same rich nature as we do. Therefore, we live in harmony with the fjords, mountains, and landscapes and make environmentally conscious choices.

We preserve culture and the environment.

We move responsibly in nature.

We want everyone to be able to experience and enjoy nature in Suldal while being mindful of their own impact. Therefore, we listen to advice, regulations, and guidelines for responsible outdoor activities.

  • Ensure that you are updated on safety guidelines before venturing into nature.
  • We want everyone to enjoy the beautiful nature in Suldal, so it's important to stay on designated trails, pick up litter, and adhere to leash regulations. Remember that there may be specific rules for protected areas!
  • Familiarize yourself with rules for lighting fires and stick to established fire pits.
  • Exercise caution before going out on rivers or lakes, both in winter and summer As one of the major hydropower municipalities in Suldal, several of our rivers and lakes are regulated, and water levels can change rapidly. Information about changes is announced by Suldal Municipality and Statkraft.
  • Respect private property and land. Set up your tent at least 150 meters away from the nearest house or cabin, and make sure to close gates and consider the animals when passing through grazing areas.
  • In our mountains and plateaus, the weather can change quickly! Make sure to familiarize yourself with local weather conditions and ensure you are prepared before embarking on a long hike.
  • Stay updated on fishing and hunting regulations, as well as other restrictions to protect our wildlife. It's a good idea to bring a guide with you the first time you go salmon fishing or hunting. In Suldal, we have many dedicated individuals who can provide you with an introduction to local rules and norms, and often increase your chances of bringing something home!
