Napen, a summit situated between Stranddalen and Sandsa, has magnificent views in every direction. You really feel like you’re on the roof of Rogaland!
You can climb Napen as a day excursion, or as a summit hike on a longer walk with an overnight stay from Sandsa to Stranddalen.
Alt. 1: Drive past Sandsavatnet lake. Continue on the gravel road until you begin the descent towards Nedre Moen. An unmarked trail takes you up to Buarekvelven, an area with calcareous soil that supports a very rich flora. There is a marked trail from Sandsa near Midtskardet. From this pass you can first take the detour, marked with cairns, to the top of Napen.

Alt. 2: Sandsa–Stranddalen via Napen. Follow the trail from Sandsa to Steinstølen, crossing the river that flows from Svinstølvatnet and Grunnavatnet lakes. Continue up to Lånestølen and on to Midtskaret. From this pass you can first take the detour, marked with cairns, to the top of Napen. After you descent, you can follow the marked trail to Stranddalshytta lodge, or return to Sandsahytta lodge.
