The Hylsfjorden has a rich history, and back in the 19th century the Hylsfjorden and Hylen formed an important traffic artery between eastern and western Norway. The wealth that then developed in Hylen has meant that the beach here is known as "Sølvkannestranda" to this day. From Hylen you can take the trip up to Hylsskardet, as traders did in the 19th century. Here you get a great view of the fjord.
Along the fjord you can find the iconic Lingvongfossen. A magnificent waterfall that was regulated as part of a hydropower development.
You can also visit the Sandvikjå bathing area in Vanvik, where you will find a floating jetty, seating areas and a sand volleyball court. Under "Walking" you can also find Vanvik's own hiking map.
The museum complex under the Ryfykemuseet, Litunet, is also located and looks out over the Hylsfjorden.
You can rent a canoe and boat to set out on the Hylsfjorden. In the summer season, Helgøy Skyssbåt organizes the "Hylsfjord cruise" here. Get in touch for group bookings out of season.
